Day 7 – Blog Challenge – Top 3 Knitting Patterns

 

2Another day, another challenge! Today’s challenge will be three of my top knitting patterns that I like to use. These are; Star bonding square, booties, and hats. These are knitting patterns for babies, as the majority of the knitting I do, is in support of the East Kent Hospital Trust.

Pattern 1 – Star Bonding Square

Measurements: 5 inches x 5 inches

Materials: Double knitting size 11 (3mm) needles

Instructions: Cast on 37 stitches.

Row 1: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 2: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 3: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 4: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 5: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 6: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K to last 4 sts., (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 7 and every other row : (K1, P1, K1, P1), P to last 4 sts., (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 8: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K to last 4 sts., (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 10: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K6, P2, K13, P2, K6, (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 12: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K6, P3, K11, P3, K6, (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 14: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K7, P4, K7, P4, K7, (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 16: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K7, P6, K3, P6, K7, (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 18: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K8, P6, K1, P6, K8, (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 20: (K1, P1, K1, P1), K8, P13, K8, (P1, K1, P1, K1)

Row 51: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 52: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 53: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 54: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Row 55: K1, P1 across, ending with K1

Cast off all stitches in pattern.

Pattern 2 – Booties

Materials: 3mm needles

Instructions: Cast on 31 stitches.

Knit 8 rows.

Row 9: Knit 12, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 12

Row 10: Knit 11, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 11

Row 11: Knit 10, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 10

Row 12: Knit 9, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 9

Row 13: Knit 8, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 8

Row 14: Knit 7, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 7

Knit 12 more rows. Bind off loosely.

Pattern 3 – Baby Hat

Materials: 3mm needles

Instructions: Cast on 82 sts.

Work in K2 P2 ribbing for 7 inches

To shape the crown

Row 1 (Right Side):
*Knit 2, purl 2 together across row

Row 2 (Wrong Side)
*Purl 2, knit 1; across row

Row 3: *Knit 2, purl 1; across row

Row 4: Repeat Row 2.

Next Row: *Knit 2 together, purl 1; across row

Next Row: Knit 1, purl 1 across row

Next Row:*Knit 2 together; across row.

Next Row: Purl across row

Last Row: *Knit 2 together; across row

To finish- cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Thread through remaining stitches and pull tightly, sew seam in back. Make and attach pom pom.
